Nsasi Vence Guerra (Sandra Santiago Pickett) is a second-generation Puerto Rican woman born and bred in Chicago, Illinois. Sandra is a poet, healer, and educator. In 2006, Sandra co-wrote her first production, "Brown Girls Singing," with her sister Dr. Yolanda Nieves. Since then, Sandra has performed with Vida Bella Ensemble, Teatro Luna, The Green House Theater, and Mixed Blood Theater.
As a poet, Sandra’s poetry has appeared in several anthologies including Shades of Ritual (2014), Cantologia (2013), and The Poetically Unspoken Anthology (2010), among many others. In 2014, she published her own book of poems, The Rhythm of Everyday Things. In 2013, unable to find a safe space for women to create and commune artistically in Chicago, Sandra founded a monthly poetry event called The Butterfly Poetry Project—a venue where women are valued as human beings growing, working, and living in a state of neutrality and peace.
