Socially engaged performance created and performed in a single week—THEATER in a FLASH!
“An artist is a lightning rod, and has a responsibility to catch that electricity in the air...to listen to the world and provide opportunities for reflection, perspective, catharsis, resistance. This is our protest.” - Guest Producer Kat Purcell
A new effort and format for Patrick's Cabaret, Lightning Rod is a week-long project creating "flash theater." Teams of writers, directors, and performers spend six days making and then performing devised (collaboratively created) work that responds to the immediacy of that week, generating performance from the prompt: "What needs to be said this week?" Drawing from news headlines and what's on the hearts and minds of artists in our community, this unique event will bring together artists from diverse backgrounds to experiment with creation, to enact our resistance—to catch our own lightning.
